PSUs across the country are preparing to recruit employees for certain key job profiles based on the candidates’ performance in the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC.
PSUs including Indian Oil to make future recruitment based on UGC NET scores: Report
Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) across the country are preparing to revamp their recruitment policies after being allowed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to use its National Eligibility Test (NET) result database.
With this move, NET which is conducted by the UGC to grant research fellowship as well as to appoint assistant professors, shall now also act as the gateway to attractive career options in PSUs such as Indian Oil.
According to reports, the UGC has already issued a letter of authorization that will allow Indian Oil access to the NET result database. Other PSUs are also likely to follow suit. The move, experts believe, will boost the significance and popularity of the NET even further.
Indian Oil had previously used GATE scores for hiring Graduate Engineers in its technical bench. Apart from that, the almost five decade old PSU also used CLAT scores to recruit law graduates.
It is worth mentioning here that after Indian Oil had turned to GATE for recruiting in its technical divisions, the exam witnessed a stiff increase of 3 lakhs applicants compared to the total number of candidates (1.5 lakh) in 2009.
A number of other PSUs, including the likes of BHEL, NTPC, Power Grid, NLC etc. started using GATE scores for their recruitment processes.
The UGC National Eligibility Test is conducted twice every year (in June and December) by the National Education Testing Bureau of UGC. Traditionally, the primary purpose of the exam has been to determine eligibility for lectureship and for award of junior research fellowship (JRF). In December 2012, approximately 29,000 candidates appeared in the exam whereas the figure fell by almost 2,500 candidates in July this year.
