The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) Deemed University (DU), is a premier educational institute significantly contributing in the sphere of Human Resources Development for the Defence Forces by way of imparting education and training on Defence Technology to the officers of Armed forces, scientists of the DRDO, Technical officers of the Ordnance Factory Board, Directorate of Quality Assurance, Public Sector Undertakings and friendly foreign countries

The institute is also active in carrying at result oriented research as required for defence and security

Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (Deemed University), Pune invites applications from eligible Indian nationals for faculty positions at the level of Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in its various academic Departments

The Institute intends to fill up the faculty positions in the following Departments

Applied Physics; Applied Chemistry; Materials Engineering

Minimum qualifications

Applied Physics, Applied Chemistry

Assistant professor

Qualifications and experience: Good academic record with at least 55% of the marks or equivalent grade where grading system is practiced at the Master’s degree level in a relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university

Preference will be given for Ist class degree holders at Master’s and/or graduate level

Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate should have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC/CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET

Ph.D in appropriate field of Science and Humanities will be given priority

NET/SLET/SET shall also not be required for such Master Programmers in disciplines for which NET/ SLET/ SET is not conducted

Associate Professor

Prescribed qualifications and experience: Good academic record with a Ph.D degree in the concerned/ allied/relevant disciplines

At least 55% marks, or equivalent grade wherever grading system is followed at the Master’s degree level

Preference will be given for Ist class degree holders at Master’s and/or graduate level

A minimum of five years experience of teaching and/or research in an academic/research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University/College or Accredited Research Institution/ Industry excluding the period of Ph.D research with evidence of published work and a minimum of 5 publications as books and/or research/published papers in indexed/ISBN/ISSN numbered books/journals

Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology-mediated teaching learning process with evidence of having guided doctoral candidates and research students

Materials Engineering

Assistant Professor

Prescribed qualifications and experience

Essential: Ph.D degree with a first class at Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the appropriate branch of Engineering, and Tech, and experience of 2 years in teaching, research and/or industry at the level of Lecturer or equivalent grade; or

First class Master’s degree in the appropriate branch of Engg, & Tech, and experience of 5 years in teaching, research, industry and/or profession at the level of Lecturer or equivalent grade; and

Offer of admission for Ph.D degree in the appropriate branch of Engg, & Tech, with a requirement to obtain the Ph.D degree within 7 years* from the date of appointment to the post; or

Applicable only to candidates from industry and the profession

First class Master’s degree in the appropriate branch of Engg, & Tech; and

Significant professional work which can be recognized# as equivalent to a Ph.D degree in the appropriate branch of Engg, & Tech, and industrial/professional experience of 2 years in a position equivalent to the level of Lecturer;

 Experience of guiding the project work/dissertation of UG/PG/Research students or supervising R&D projects in industry

 Associate Professor

 Essential: Ph.D degree with first class at Bachelor’s or Master’s level in the appropriate branch of Engg,/ Tech, and experience of 5 years in teaching, research and/or industry at the level of Lecturer/Assistant Professor or equivalent grade, excluding period spent on obtaining the research degree; or

 Applicable only to candidates from industry and the profession

 First Class Master’s degree in the appropriate branch of Engg,/Tech

 Significant professional work which can be recognized* as equivalent to a Ph.D degree in appropriate branch of Engg/Tech, and industrial /professional experience of 5 years in a position equivalent to the level of Lecturer/Assistant Professor

 (*This recognition shall be valid only if the same is recommended unanimously by a 3- Member Committee of Experts appointed by the Competent Authority)

 Desirable: Teaching, research, industrial and/or professional experience in a reputed organization

 Published work, such as research papers, patents filed/obtained, books, and/or technical reports

Experience of guiding the project work/dissertation of UG/PG/Research students or supervising R&D projects in industry

Professor: Ph.D degree with first class at Bachelor’s or Master’s level in the appropriate branch of Engg/ Tech, and experience of 10 years in teaching, research and/or industry, out of which at least 5 years shall be at the level of Reader/Associate Professor or equivalent grade; or

Demonstrated leadership in planning and organizing academic, research, industrial and/or professional activities

 Capacity to undertake/lead sponsored R&D, consultancy and related activities

 If class or division is not declared at the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree levels, an aggregate of not less than 60% or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is to be considered as equivalent to First Class

 Scale of Pay

 Professor Rs 37,400-67,000/- (AGP 10,000/- plus other allowance as admissible to DIAT (DU) employee

 Associate Professor Rs 37,400-67,000/- (AGP 9,000/- plus other allowances as admissible to DIAT (DU) employees

 Assistant Professor Rs 15,600-39,100/- (With appropriate AGP as applicable according to UGC/MHRD guidelines issued in this behalf and allowances as admissible to DIAT (DU) employees

Age limit: Preferably below 50 years for Professor; 45 years for Associate Professor; 40 years for Assistant Professor

The date for determining the upper age limit, qualifications and/or experience shall be the closing date prescribed for receipt of online electronics application form is 08^th March, 2012

Mere fulfillment of the above-mentioned qualifications etc, does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview

Where number of applications received in response to an advertisement is large, it may not be convenient or possible for the Institute to interview all the candidates

The Institute may restrict the number of candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable limit, on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than that of the minimum prescribed in the advertisement

The candidates should, therefore, furnish all the qualifications and experience possessed in the relevant field, over and above the minimum qualifications prescribed

Candidates who are presently employed should submit their applications through proper channel
