It is a good time for the brilliant and the best engineering graduates out there. Flipkart, Amazon and other e-commerce companies are on an all time high for hiring of staff, to an extent that companies like Google, SAP- India, and others are having a tough time finding talent in India.

All this is a direct result of the recent investment glorification that have been made by the fund raising by Flipkart. Obviously Amazon India being the local competitor is also giving their competition a tough time. But all this put together has made it the market a candy-shop for those students who are looking for jobs in the sector as the companies are now in a position offer salaries as high as 50 per cent higher than what the market is offering to engineers.
This is the case with employees all across as flipkart has increased the salary that it offers to its senior executive or freshers by almost a whopping 40 per cent. Not only this, but the company is quite sure how it wants to take care of its employees as the added perks and bonuses are an additional benefit.
It should not be forgotten that this is not a one way street as it is the need of the hour for companies like Amazon India and Flipkart to have skilled and efficient engineers working for them. After all the e-commerce sector thrives on technology for almost all the aspects; from marketing to the supply chain to their websites, new features to analysing data on the shopping habits of customers. The website will be bigger and better and so will its chance of doing better depending on the team of engineers working on it.
Since both companies have raised considerable amounts for investing into the company, they are more bothered about building a strong human resource for the working of the company. So the companies are focused on working with the best there is in the market, hiring from B-Schools like Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Indian School of Business (ISB) and many other engineering colleges and B-schools.
The market has seen a sudden inclination of the skilled and the top talent towards such companies working in the e-commerce sector as the pay packages are on a different scale altogether than what any other company can offer at the time.
Between 2008 and 2012 the yearly intake of students at engineering colleges more than doubled and the number grew to 2.5 million in 2012, according to AICTE figures. The number of fresh engineers hired by IT companies slumped to 235,000 in 2012 from 341,000 in 2008, according to data from Nasscom, in the same time period.
