Changes required in bank clerks recruitment process

The Centre has been asked by the All-India Employees Association to provide a well organized report of the clerks recruitment in public sector banks.

As per the letter provided to the Financial Services Secretary, the Association has asked to consider the current Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) recruitment as it was flawed and discriminated against job seekers from backward and poor backgrounds. Association also pointed out on the examination fee of IBPS. Rs 600 charge by IBPS was considered extremely high.

According to the Association, this year’s selection conditions for five associate banks of the State Bank were degrading. One condition from the set was that the candidate can apply for a clerical post in just one associate bank and that too in just one State.

“When the recruitment is common for all the five subsidiary banks of SBI, why a candidate should not apply for vacancies in multiple banks in other States too?” the association wanted to know.

The association also wants to know that why the State wise vacancies cannot be pooled in a common recruitment and the candidate should be allowed to choose the bank at the time of the final selection. The current procedure provide no benefit to the candidates in reserved categories as they were not allowed to compete for other vacancies in other banks.

Reviving old Banking Service Recruitment Boards is only the best way to address these recruitment issues, according to the Association.
