The state chief ministers have been requested to involve their own state Public Service Commission and other recruiting agencies in attempts to stop the interview and achieve the selection only on the basis of a competitive examination.
The Modi government is pushing for abolition of interviews for lower level posts, and the sole objective is to curb corruption, and ensure selection in a transparent manner. This step will significantly ease the problems of the deprived candidates. Moreover, this will enable giving more weightage to meritorious candidates.
A DoPT release indicated that the step to abolish interviews will also supplement the government’s resolve for “maximum governance, minimum government”.
DoPT(Department of Personnel & Training) and DARPG(Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances have recently carried out key decisions including introduction of pension portal to abolish the necessity for a written life-certificate, approval of self-attested certificates and initiating evaluation of the pattern and syllabus of the Civil Services Examination.
