Qualification:

If any University awards grades instead of marks, applicants should clearly mention the numerical equivalent of the grades in terms of aggregate marks.

Preference shall be given to the candidates having professional qualification like CFA/CS/FIIRM/ MBA from recognized University or Institute.

AAO (Chartered Accountant) – An Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India

AAO (Actuarially Qualified) – A pass in seven or more subjects (Papers) of the Examination conducted by the Institute of Actuaries, London or the Actuarial Society of India (excluding Paper-CT9- Business Awareness Module) as on the date of eligibility.

Emoluments and benefits: Basic pay Rs 11,110/- per month in the scale of Rs 11,110-540(14)-18670-560(4)-20,910 (under revision) and other admissible allowances as per rules. Total emoluments will be approximately Rs. 18,250/- in a city like Mumbai. Other benefits are Non-Contributory Provident Fund, Gratuity, Pension (applicable as per the scheme existing on the date of appointment), LTC, Medical Benefit, Group Savings Linked Insurance (GSLI), Group Term Insurance, Vehicle (2 wheeler/4 wheeler) Advance, etc as per rules of the Corporation. Candidates who possess two years post qualification experience as Chartered Accountant in reputed organizations as on the date of eligibility shall be eligible for two advance increments on their appointment as Assistant Administrative Officer (Chartered Accountant) in the Corporation.

LIC AAO Application Fees (Non-refundable): Application Fee of Rs. 300/- shall be payable in Cash during cash collection hours at any Cash Collection Center of LIC Offices viz. Satellite/Branch/ Divisional/Zonal Officer of Life Insurance Corporation of India. DD/Cheques shall not be accepted. On-line applications shall be registered only on payment of application fee of Rs. 300/- in cash (wherever applicable). On payment of application fee, candidates will be issued a Miscellaneous Receipt containing details such as transaction number, transaction date, branch code & miscellaneous collection number appearing on the receipt issued to him/her. The receipt must be carried while filling up the application on-line so that the required details related to payment of fees can be filled correctly.

Before leaving the cash collection centre, candidate should specifically check that the account code no 114033 is appearing in the miscellaneous receipt issued to him/her. Candidate should also check that his/her name is correctly reflected in the miscellaneous receipt.

Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Physically Handicapped candidates are not required to pay any fee.

Service conditions: These shall be as applicable in the corporation from time to time. These posts are regular and selected candidates on appointment are liable to be posted or subsequently transferred anywhere in India

Selection procedure: For Assistant Administrative Officer (Generalists)

A competitive examination will be held at 37 centers in India. Applicants will have to appear for the written examination on 7th June, 2009 (tentative) at the centre chosen by them/allotted to them at their own expenses. The corporation, however, reserves the right to change the examination date. Candidates will be informed accordingly in case of any change in the date of examination. Appearing in the written examination will not automatically confer any right for being selected for the said post. Selection will be on the basis of overall performance in the written test and interview. Further, the appointment of candidates will be subject to his/her being found medically fit in the pre-recruitment medical examination.

LIC AAO Written Test:

Paper I (Objective): Reasoning Ability (Bilingual – English/Hindi), Numerical Ability (Bilingual – English/Hindi), General Knowledge & Current Affairs (Bilingual – English/Hindi), English Language with special emphasis on grammar and vocabulary

Paper II (Descriptive): Test on Essay (can be written in Hindi or English), Precis & Comprehension in English

Selection Procedure for Assistant Administrative Officer (Chartered Accountant & Actuarially Qualified): Selection will be based on the performance in the interview and fitness is pre-recruitment medical examination. The number of candidates to be called for interview will be about three times the number of vacancies to be filled in under each post.

Probation:
One year, extendable upto 2 years.

Guarantee Bond: Before joining as a Probationer, candidates will be required to give an undertaking to serve the Corporation for a minimum period of four years from the date of joining (including probationary period) failing which, he/she will be liable to pay liquidated damages of Rs. 100,000 (Rs one lakh only) to the Corporation. The candidate will have to submit an indemnity bond for Rs. 1,00,000 (Rs. One lakh only) duly stamped and executed by a Surety of sound financial standing and not related to the candidate. The stamp value of the bond will be as applicable to the State in which the bond is executed by the Surety.

Examination Centres
: Competitive written examination will be held at specific centres in India. The candidates may choose any one of the following centres which must be indicated in the application form clearly. Probation: Selected candidates if certified to be medically fit, may be appointed as Administrative Officer (Scale-I) on probation for a period of one year which may be extended by a further period of six months.

Guarantee bond:
Before joining as probationer, the selected candidates will be required to give an undertaking to serve the company for a minimum period of four years including probationary period. In the event of their resigning from the company before the expiry of the bond period, they will be liable to pay liquidated damages equivalent to one year’s gross salary paid to them during the year of probation which could be proportionately reduced depending on the length of service rendered. Besides, he/she will have to submit a stamped Bond duty executed by two sureties of sound financial standing, for an amount equivalent to one year’s gross salary.

Job Opportunities in insurance sector

With the opening of the insurance sector, new career opportunities are becoming visible in the following streams of insurance:

Marketing:
Every insurance company is in great need of persons who can market its products. Such a person can be an agent/ adviser of the companies concerned, an employee-cum-associate of an insurance broker or a corporate agent of an insurance company. The minimum qualification required is class XII. A person has to undergo at least 100 hours of training to be arranged by the insurance company and has to pass a test, after which a licence is granted by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority. If one is willing to work sincerely for at least three to four hours daily, then he can earn about Rs 10,000 per month, which will continue to increase.

Insurance companies
are also recruiting unit/sales managers, who recruit and guide agents to bring new insurance policies. The person to be recruited as a sales manager should be at least a graduate, with some experience in marketing.

Training: All insurance companies are in need of persons who can impart training to their marketing force and other staff. Such training is being outsourced from insurance colleges by some companies while some have their own training managers. A majority of these imparting such training are retired insurance officials.

Insurance courses:
At present about 20 private insurance companies are in the market and are in the process of expanding their activities. They will require qualified persons. Many colleges are introducing insurance as a subject at the graduation level. Some private institutions also offer insurance courses. While choosing a course, a candidate is supposed to be vigilant, as placement cannot be guaranteed by any such course.

Actuarial Science:
If one goes for the actuarial science exam and qualifies even in a few papers, then placement is not a problem. The eligibility for admission is:

(i) 10+2 (HSC) or equivalent with at least 85 per cent marks in mathematics/statistics.

(ii) Graduate/postgraduate with subject like mathematics, etc and must have at least 55 per cent marks in mathematical sciences.

(iii) The medium of instruction must be English.

The total number of papers is 16 and the exams are held every year in May and November, with no restrictions on the number of papers you want to appear in at a time and with no age restriction. Candidates will be called for a written examination to be held on 22/02/2009 which would comprise the following: Objective type of tests in (i) Reasoning Ability, (ii) Quantitative Aptitude, (iii) English Language, (iv) General Awareness & Elementary Computer Knowledge and (v) Professional Knowledge – for the candidates belonging to Group A to H. (vi) A General Aptitude Test will be taken in lieu of Professional Knowledge Test for the candidates belonging to Group I. The additional topics, which will be covered in this part, will be a) Data Sufficiency b) Analysis of Information/Analytical Ability c) Data Interpretation. The first four tests i.e. Test of Reasoning Ability, Quantitative Aptitude, English Language and General Awareness/ Elementary Computer Knowledge will be common for all the candidates. The Test of Professional knowledge will be specific to each of the Group A to H as may be applicable. Test papers (i), (ii), (iv), (v) and (vi) shall be both in English & Hindi.

Candidates will have to appear for the written examination at their own expenses on 22/02/2009.

The company reserves the right not to call any candidate to appear at the written examination and interview. On the basis of performance in written examination, candidates will be called for interview. The final selection will be made on the basis of overall performance in written examination and interview. Outstation candidates called for the interview will be reimbursed to and fro second-class rail fare/bus fare by the shortest route on production of evidence of having undertaken journey.
